Hello all

My mug is now old news on the B3ta site so no more improvements on little old me in the near future I guess. Computer at home started playing up yesterday, I think the HDD might be buggered. Currently crashing KotOR and I'm 28 hours in. Bastard.

Big news this week is Dave will soon be joining Elv and Dunc in Oz. Good luck to all, I'm not jealous; not me, no sir.

Got the first draft of the contract for the Korea project today I thought I'd share clause 3.9 with you, its title; "Nominated Subcontractor to Provide and Do Everything"... That sort of sets the timbre for the whole thing, which follows on with a demand for a 30% bond. All very reasonable, I'm sure. Fun bed time reading for me.

Nothing exciting in the news, except SH reported as saying "Bush is the real criminal" in Iraqi court and calling the Kuaitis "dogs" which is a bit harsh on their womenfolk, I think.

See ya

Paraphrased from some thing on Molybdenum Guy sent me...

HONG KONG, June 29 (Reuters' Growler) - Vodka imbibers In Hong Kong, the world's top consumer of Smirnoff, are boosting input to take advantage of Power Hour prices that have halved since the start of the year, industry officials said on Tuesday.
An official for Carnegies, "Dr" Evil, Wanchai's largest supplier of Brennan related drinking supplies, said Guy would consume about 20,000 tonnes of red label Smirnoff during the average happy hour, more on Wednesdays when Vodka is on special.
This represents an increase of around one-third on the 14,000 to 15,000 tonnes of Vodka per hour that Forbes reported as guy's drinking capacity in 2003.
"Prices are on an upward trend. Guy's getting them in while the going's good" the Good Doctor said, puring another Evil One.
Spot prices for Red Label Smirnoff [VODDY-SMIR-RED] hit all-time highs
above $50 a double in mid-June, against $38 a few weeks previously and $17 at the beginning of the year. No wonder, then, that Guy has been taking advantage of the happy hour specials that have undercut the rising market in getting lagged this past quarter.
Vodka is widely used to Weaken bladders and render otherwise minging brass attractive, the latter being an essential requirement for remaining in Carnegies after 9pm.
G Brennan, who occupies a stool and bar space in Hong Kong's WanChai district accounting for around a third of the district's consumption, would imbibe more than 80 percent of his body weight during Crazy Hour, the Doctor said.
Guy drank 32,900 tonnes of Vodka last year, but analysts said in April that 2004 consumption could fall due to strong demand from his employer for him to turn up at work and the expansion of the European Union, although they were unclear as to what a bunch of sausage and garlic eaters 6000 miles away had to do with getting in the way of a good piss-up.

Morning

well, the nose gets worse, eventually it will just drop off, I think. will endeavor to post an updated picture later.

The Guardian today reports on a story you have all probably heard about; that SH and several of his cronies are to be "handed over" to the Iraqi government. Inverted commas used to demonstrate virtual nature of actual "Handing over". It seems he will be legally havded over but not actually handed over. Smudge, you know this sort of lawyer bullshit, clarify, please. I wouldn't mention the story, really (a bit like reporting the England got knocked out of the Euro-cup; Everyone knows and I don't care) but there was this interesting snippet;

[The tribunal that will try him] will rely on a mix of Iraqi criminal law, international regulations such as the Geneva convention, and the experiences of organisations including the Rwanda war crimes tribunal.

I can't remember if SH is being held in conditions conforming to Geneva C or not. If so, he must be the only Iraqi who is...

the ultimate toy...?

I'm not sure if these are around where you live, but we saw some in San Francisco when we were on holiday a couple of years ago, the're called Pocket Bikes or Runt Bikes and it knocked me flat to see a dozen or so fully grown folks in full racing leathers buzzing these things around the Quay area. Wired reports that there are issues with legality. For once, although they are certainly being killjoys, I have to agree with the cops. Of course they're fucking illegal, dipshits! Still want one, though...

Enough for this morning, I'm off to work.

Good luck to Dave.

Afternoon

well, greetings this morning included;

polite silence (secretary)
"err.." (designer)
"have you looked in the mirror this morning?" (other PM, said without trace of irony)
"oh hold on; just give me a chance to stop laughing" (now dead IT manager)
"FUCKING HELL ... have you got a camera?" (my boss, not too clear on the irony there...)

Suffice to say that half the skin came off my nose during an unfortunate seepage cleaniung exercise and the UN wants to declare my face an international disaster zone but they're being vetoed by the Chinnese, who want to turn it into a game park and by the Yanks who want to invade it and see if they can fuel a Hummer with the run off.

Mondays were always supposed to be this way

Morning All

Seems we have had some weekend chattage...

Books

Pandora's star I am 1/2 way through. Who gave PF Hamilton Dave and My plot? Good though. PFH is the king of the space opera. If you like that read the Night's dawn trilogy which is ace.

DaVinci code I have heard mixed things about.

William Gibson; Pattern Recognition is excellent. Not really Sci-fi so should also appeal to all you "but aliens don't exist" kill joys out there.

Computer stuff

Knights of the Old Republic is top. Spent approx 10 hours of Saturday (ie from finishing work to falling unconscious) on it. Might be too long, not sure if it will maintain my attention, but see how; I still have Far Cry to look forward to...

Went sailing yesterday. Forgot sunscreen. Currently leaking from several openings in the skin on my face. Reminds me of Dave before my wedding. Not pleasant. Also I was wearing a hat, so have a nice white line across my forehead. Work today should be fun. Perhaps I'll post a picture for your delictation. Ohh; and here it is...

Badgers repeats, Smudge; If you didn't work that out by 4-0 then there may be no hope for you. Also, it clearly tells the score line if there were badgers playing, not England...

Kenya is more unmitigated Genius, for those who haven't seen it it's here. I guarantee you will be getting funny looks from clients, bosses and the like when they catch you quietly singing "come to Kenya; we've got Liiiions" and chuckling to yourself.

Please tell Sparkey that if his social life will be organised on this site, then he should turn up every so often and take part.

Cheers
