moning folks

bloody snowed last night. We'd gone to Gent for the evening, ostensibly to go to a track racing meet but really just to meet up with our new adopted bike club, the BigM. The snow started as we pulled into Gent station. With Gent only about 20 miles from Brussels, we had a pretty good idea what would eb happening to the weather back home. As it turned out, the tickets were sold out (for a cycle track racing meet!) so we went to the pub instead. Sitting in one of the hearts of Flemish Belgium, nusing some super-strength beers. The snow continued to fall. The wind was whistling down the main street and so while a blizzard flew past on one side of the pub, through the window onto the side street, it was falling in the lea of the building and so seemed quite tranquil. We looked from one to the other and wondered how we would get home. Ah, well, there was always the beer.

Of course we did get home fine, the trains were a little late but still running; this isn't BR, after all. The morning brought news of devastation on the Brussels roads and abandoned trams at the stop outside our flat. Apparently around 15% of drivers are over the limit at 9pm on any given friday night, multiply that by the snow fall and see what you get. The cat's never seen the snow and rushed out into the back garden at the first opportunity. he then froze solid as he realised that the ground was the wrong colour and giving way under him. He would make step after tentative step with his front paws, but his rear was just not following, I guess because he couldn't see them. It was precious. We watched for a while, wishing we had a video camera, and then fetched him in. Ahh the joy of your first snow! I'll leave you with this email regarding the recently departed football player and bon vivant, George Best;

Made me laugh, anyway

Morning folks

well the Frenchie lessons are going OK and I got into my first PVP action this morning (L33t for got killed by another player rather than a NPC pirate) on EVE. Strange how bad it felt, kind of like I'd lost something real. Huh.

Anyhoo, I had lots of jokeys forwarded by peeps in the last week, the one you've probably all seen by now about the girlfriend's apology for blowing two guys in the pub toilet was a standout, and I got that from at least 3 people so it has oficially gone viral. The star of the show, though, was this gem from Jules, which I'm pretty sure is Smudge with his Spiderman costume on...

Go web Go!
Could be Jezza, though, for those of you who haven't met the big man yet, here's his webcam.
