Back of the net...

I got offered a job yesterday, starting on Thursday. I was going to keep it quiet coz ... well ... I might turn up and find it's a practical joke or something but it's about time I developed some self confidence so here goes.

I'm working for a local Flemish / Dutch technical consultancy who are handling the scheduling on a refinery shut down - maintain - restart for a petrochem firm. The job will be working with one other (very senior) guy building then maintaining the schedule. It's expected to have 50,000 activities in it. erk.

I was completely honest with them about my exp etc (ie, petrochem; that's to do with petrol, right?) and they still gave me the job, so great learning op all round.

The project is at the client's office in Antwerp docks (bout 45min - 1 hour drive) where their facility covers ... 12 sq km. Parking isn't a problem apparently.

and it's more money than I was on in HK ...

and it's by the hour ...

for a year.

Thus, if it does turn out to be a real job and not something I just dreamt up, I should be irritatingly wealthy within months.

The project apparently runs in English, with a brit project director and lots of europeans of varying extraction, which makes it sound a lot like a big asian project, frankly so I should feel at home. Only now instead of being a pikey sub-con trying to curry favor with the bow tied expat specialist co-ordinator type ... I'll be the one in the bow tie. Well, I'll be his side-kick, actually, but you get the picture.

I'm currently car shopping, is it too soon, do you think?

Oh, and of course in true euro fashion the first thing I'll do is take 2 days off, coz next Monday and Tues are bank holidays. Only down side is I won't get paid, I guess...

ooooh, look; clever embedded video type thing

I got a link to this video made by some geeks to publicise their unhappiness at big business undermining t'internet. Compulsive viewing, in a slightly odd manner. I wouldn't have bothered really except they had this cut and paste code thingy so I can embed the video right here ---->

Remeber the Tron guy (Don't worry, I'm from the internet)? I reckone that might really be him....
